Gas tank ???

Gas tank ???
Ok we filled up my aunts Expedition today and it was on 1/4 of a tank and it took 27.8 gallons!! But the window sticker says it has a 26.0 !! Where could the gas be going, could they of put the wrong tank on?? Please Help thank you !!

All 4x4 1997-2002 Expeditions have a 30-gallon tank.
4x2 1997-2002 Expeditions WITHOUT the factory trailer towing package have a 26-gallon tank.
4x2 1997-2002 Expeditions WITH the factory trailer towing package have a 30-gallon tank.

Regardless of the fact that it might have a 30 gal. tank, I have never seen my Expy take 27.8 gal when showing 1/4 tank on the gauge. I suspect a little gas gouging going on at the station where JerNla filled up.

First of all Thanks for all of the help!! Ok now I dont't have lls and i did not come factory with the towing package ( It is not on the window sticker and not on the truck but I bought it used) I put it on. And I did expect gas gouging at first but this is happening at sereral stations ( Exxon, Circle K, Shell and Wal-mart ) Wether I am putting in 26 or 27 it still shouldn't take that much on 1/4 of a tank rite??
I really try not to let it go far past 1/4 of a tank b/c I dont like spending more than 50 bucks to fill up !!

Starting to sound like your sending unit or gauge. I read a few weeks ago where Shell had recalled a lot of gas for high sulfur levels. High sulfur levels in the gas could possibly cause damage to sending units.
