Just bought a 2001 F250 with power stroke. Is synthetic oil recommended? If so, what kind, what weight? Should I wait till 1,000 or so miles before I change to synthetic?
Thanks!

I would not recommend using a fully synthetic oil but you could use a syn blend. Besides diesels last up to about 300,000, why would you need it to last longer. Check out shell's website and look for there synthetic blends, it also gives you info on why not to use full synthetic in a diesel.
www.shell-lubricants.com Shell oil, and chevron delo 15w-40 are very good oils and should be sufficient.
Also, very important, make sure your engine is fully broke-in before using synthetic, because it can cause parts not to wear-in correctly due to the fiction characteristics.
