I hit that stretch of road on Kellogg right before you get onto the north bound entrance to 235( full of pot holes). The truck jumped all over the place. The rear end went sideways a little. I made it up on on ramp and at the top of the on ramp the truck started cutting out. Then it died. I would start but sounding and felt like it was running on one cyclinder. I had my uncle tow me home. He mentioned it might be the fuel pump shut off switch. I found it and reset it. The truck now smells strongly of fuel but still won't start.
It either has to be fuel or ignition related. It will turn over great but just won't catch. I need to see if it's getting spark.
Jon, remove a wire and stick a screwdriver in it, hold it about a 1/4 in away from a ground source and crank it. You can call me tomorrow and I,ll help if you need it.
Can you send me your number again. I can't find it.
I put a screw driver in the first plug on the drivers side. I didn't have any kind of spark.
My first thought was after shaking the truck up so bad that the chip had fallen out or something. But when I checked it..it was still in very tight.
I need to find a rail pressure thing..LOL. I need to make sure I have fuel. I am almost sure that I do but who knows. I have a chilton's book that tells me how to check the coil pack. So that is another thing to check.
I'll probably pull the chip in the morning while the negative cable is off and reset the whole thing to stock. I wouldn't think the chip would cause an issue but....again...who knows.
I'm telling you...I was at Mel Hambeltons today and they had an 04' screw that was awesome. If I had the money I would have bought it today. SWEEEEET!!!
So far I've taken the negative cable off and took the chip out. I reversed the install directions and it still won't start.
I left the negative cable off for about 5 minutes hoping it would reset the computer. Still doesn't work.
Chilton says it could be either Fuel or ignition related. Duhhhh...
There are a ton of test to find out if it's ignition. I can't seem to figure out if the ignition has a fuse. I've looked thru all the info but can't find one.
Are you getting fuel pressure? On the fuel rail there should be a pressure check connection, it looks like a tire valve stem. Take the cap off and press down the core (be careful it should be under pressure) if no fuel comes out or it's not pressurized then you have a fuel problem. Most likely is the fuel cutoff switch.
Not sure about yours but mine has 2 fuses under the hood for ignition. #111 and 113 both are 40amp. There is also 1 in the drivers compartment #30 a 30amp.
Also you might want to post this in other forums to reach more people and help. There is the V-6 section or the 97-03 section. Lots of info out there and people that know more then I do.
I beat my head against the wall all night and all morning on what this could be. We were outside working on it trying to find this and that. Lynn pulls up....talk about happy.
He walks up to the truck. Looks at the engine and wiggled a wire. He said "try to start it". I got in the truck and it started right up....
A while back I was doing some of the wire loom covers. I had taken the wire off that gives power to the coil pack. I guess I hadn't gotten it on tight and when I hit that rough pack it knocked it loose.
So basically, I spent hours researching the problem and Lynn had it fixed and running in about a minute.
Lynn your the man and a heck of a member to the club.
Thanks very much. I told my wife he fixed it and she said if she was there she'd kiss him...LOL.
I know the feeling Jon. When I installed my e-fans I forgot to plug in the cold air sensor on my intake. It kept turning on the CEL light. I tried to figure it out. Spent atleast an hour on it. Finally took it to a friends shop. He pulled the code and the first words out of his mouth was "did you plug you cold air sensor bake in?" Doh! I felt like an idiot!
