Governor Setting On 6.9
My 6.9 has the factory governor setting of 3800 rpm. When traveling on the interstate it will govern out at 78-80 MPH. Will it hurt to run the engine at that high of RPM's or is that just the manufactures specs for efficiency and maximum torque and HP?

I have run my 6.9 up on the governor for about 3 1/2 hrs. straight going to upstate NY. mine will do about 90-95 way past the end of the speedo but it never hurt mine the governor is there to stop you from going over that rpm so that you won't hurt the engine. JOHN FATFORTY

It really is not good to run the motor all the way to the govenor, though it will not hurt the motor, it can cause the govenor to push to hard on the by pass spring, causing it to weaken over time, and making the govenor engauge sooner than it is currently at. It is advisable to go to the govenor limit and then just back off slightly.
