Re-installing rear end - tips, tricks?
I had to replace some leaves in the rear of my '79 f250. The whole truck is up on blocks. I supported the rear end in three places with blocks - left and right axle just inside the shock mount, and on the nose of the differential to keep it from rotating down, then cut the u-bolts which let the axle drop about 1/2inch. I left the main leaf springs on the truck and disassembled the leaves.
I've done a lot of climbing around down there in the meantime working on other things and it's gotten bumped a bit, but not much.
In re-assembling, as far as I can tell it's just a matter of re-inserting the bolt that goes through the centre of all the leaves back into the centering hole in the pad on the axle and everything has to automatically go back into place.
But, question: is there something un-obvious I should know? Anything that should be checked before reassembly? I was concerned about dropping andbumping the axle perhaps pulling too much on the transmission.
