Hi,
I have a 78 f150 and when i run the wipers they slap the truck at both ends of their rotation. I cant seem to get them any better than they are. And to make things worse, they slap so hard that they eventually knock the wiper off the arm. My question is how do i tighten up th etravel in the arms? is there some kind of limiter or is it all contained in the motor and the only answer is to replace the motor?
thanks

the sweep control is engineered in the linkage under the cowl
you most likely have worn out linkage
pull the motor and start with that connection first
then check where the linkage connects to the shaft under the wiper
If the wipers are too long for your truck they will hit the trim and rubber at the top of the windshield. If the linkage is worn out then the right wiper assembly can hit the trim and rubber at the bottom of the windshield and the left wiper assembly can hit the left side trim and rubber of the windshield.
Could it be the wiper pivot assembly? The one on my driver's side is cracked to heck...probably because it looks like someone tried to put the arm back on by whacking it with a Crescent wrench or something.
You'd have to remove the dash trim, instrument cluster and glovebox insert to check these.
