I posted a thread a bit ago about my truck pinging and I still can not figure it out. I was told it could be my egr so I replaced it and still the same ping. My truck for the first time ever started to overheat and the ping got so bad that the truck did not want to go. I have checked the timing 3 times now and still no luck(yes I unplugged the spout). Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
There are so many things that can cause a ping but here are a few more and am sure others will follow with even more. Distribuor cap, rotor, distributor, TFI module, MAP sensor (mine did), plugs, incorrect plug gap, plug wires, coil, fuel injectors, pressure regulator(incorrect pressure / flow), dirty throttle body, bad / dirty / defective AIC, upper intake dirty, cracked gaskets either upper intake or TB area and probably numerous others.
By the way, I am kind of surprised that a mechanic can not resolve your problem or are you the mechanic ?
Good luck but let us know what it takes to get your Bronco back to normal.
Ok first start by telling us what you have done to try and correct this. you timing should be set at 8* btdc with spout out. have you checked for vacum leaks. replaced o2 sensor? replaced cap, rotor, plugs (autolites), plug wires? have you checked the computer codes? have you done any mods to this motor this will help us to .
I could be wrong but I think the timing on my air box says to set to 10*btdc? I replaced the o2sensor about 4 months ago along with the plugs and wires. I used motorcraft plugs. I don't hear any vacum leaks and I did inspect to see if anything was loose. I replaced a fuel injector a month ago and after that is when I seemed to notice the ping. Although I am pretty sure I got the upper manifold gasket in place. If not, is there a way I could check? I loaned my code puller to a friend but I will get it back today and see what it says.
yea, carb cleaner or starting fluid . just spray it around the gaskets if the motor revs or dies cant remember which then you have a leak. What happens when you run 92 octane? also run by napa and buy some seafoam. great stuff and may help out
Well 91 is our highest and I tried that with no luck still. I just got done pulling the codes and it is clean. I will try spraying that around the seals. What is seafoam?
it cleans the motor and fuel system of all carbon deposits .
well i would try first backing the timing down to 8*. then if that doesnt work you might have a thermostat thats sticking . I thought i had a ping at one time to ended up being my cat rattling on the inside.
well I don't think it is a cat because like I said yesterday The ping got so bad that the truck was sputtering. I will try that seafoam stuff. Does it go in your gas or oil?
