78 F350 frame

Hi All,
I'll be doing a swap (400 to 460) in my truck with a minimal budget, so I can't just buy all new parts, which means more than one trip to the wrecking yard.

My question- Are the motor mount bolt patterns the same in 2wd front crossmember sections for the F350 frame of the 70s? For example, can mounts from a '79 F250 2wd fit into my '78 F350? Or how about a '77 mount set into my '78?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, a lot of frame and suspention parts are interchangeable through F-250 and F-350. Actually, the frame mounts for the motor, that you are asking about, will even interchange from an F-100/F150 too.

Hey thanks neverenough! This is my first F350 and not to familiar with all the interchangables....
Do you know if the same frame mounts are used for 460s and 400s?

No, the 460's had a car type motor mount system, where as the 400 had the stud type truck mount. You can use 360/390 mounts, but you have to put a new hole in it to make it work on the 460. Another option is to use aftermarket mounts. L&L makes one which is sold through Broncograveyard, they are found in the sponsors section. both of those will work with the 400 frame mounts, otherwise you will have to find a factory installed 460 and use both the motor and frame mounts. If you can only find the 460 frame mounts, you can still get new motor mounts if needed. Places like NAPA, that sell motor mounts, have them.

Hmm maybe I'll just go with the L&L solution - instead of used from a wrecking yard. I was looking at adapter plates, too. Then I realized those would raise the engine by at least 3/8". Not sure of the clearance at the firewall and if it would be an issue, but the more room the better.
Nothing could be worse than a busted motor mount when pulling a load! Hey thanks again for the info, I appreciate it.

460 engine mounts are a 3-piece mount.
Frame tower
Engine block
rubber insulator .
The system requires cross-bolting everything together.
