First I would check out the stability of the engine (through compression and vacuum testing at least) before sinking big money into it. As for the paint thing I have the same problem with my 1989 Bronco EB, Ford said the recall ran for 3 years so we are out of luck. If you have another ride, check the local community (technical) colleges they will usually do it for material cost, the kids do a great job because they are getting graded on it, but sometimes it can take months to get done. It boils down to a time vs. money thing.

"mobil 1 oil------------5 quarts----------$15-im a mobil fan still" I would not use it on that old a veh,if it has a leak it will get worst and if it dont leak it will start. If you are a Mobile fan ues ther dino oil I think it called Molib drive clean 10W 30.
"engine restore in a can---$10-i love ths stuff"WHY?-If you got a compression proplem fix it dont just band-aid it.
"Actron Sun Super Tach 2-5/8" Black Dial Black Bezel------$35-i put one of these in every vehical i buy...just habit i guess" Why?- what is this and what does it Do??
"oil pump----------------$60-these are a common killer so im gonna get one just to make sure"IFyour going to replace the oil pump you might as well rebuild the engine you got to pull the engine to replace the oil pump anyway.JMO.
