'01 Expedition with 73k miles. No noticible transmission problems prior to a 500 mile road trip. The following day after arriving I noticed slippage going through the gears and the engine would almost stall in reverse. I took it to an independent shop for a look. They determined the torque converter was going south and recomended replacement before returning home. I agreed and had them replace the torque converter and pump. The trip home was fine for about 400 miles and after stopping at a toll booth and accelerating it slammed into 3rd gear, I dismissed the rough shift until it did it again at a stoplight prior to getting home. A call to the shop that replaced the unit, they assured me it was okay to drive and was more than likely a stuck valve. I took it out for a quick/ slow spin and no problems. Later that day was a different story. High RPM's for 5-7 seconds before shifting into essentially any gear. I took it to another shop near my home to be scanned and the scanner didn't detect anything and the selector lever indicated what it was supposed to. Now it won't engage in reverse for about 10 seconds at 3,500 RPM's. Any thoughts on the problem or suggestions on how to handle the shop that performed the original replacement?
I'd call the shop, although they're going to tell you to "bring it back" before they'll do anything else. If they are a-holes, you might call/write your credit card company and dispute the charge.
