has anyone taken there escape off road? i mean off road, not just on the trails, im talking through the stuff.....mud pits, streams..... recently bought a 03 escape 4x4 xlt......wondering if it can handle the rough stuff?
best way to find out if it will make it is to try yourself. I dont have my escape yet, but when I get it I will probably try it out off road for sure. Who cares if they arent made for off road, thats why I would take it, b/c no one esle does it. Just be smart cuz its not gonna go over boulders and stuff.
The driveline should hold up ok If your smart and don't try anything to crazy. Large tires and huge lifts are usually what tears things up epesically with the cv joints(I have seen this on the newer chevys) always have another truck there to pull you out if you get stuck or break. have fun and good luck
I have an '05 4x4, for what it is I've done some pretty darn good off-roading with it. I've only had 2 issues with it so far: 1)CLEARANCE(will be a problem w/ me no matter what kind of lift kit I have ) 2)Taking it through a pretty large puddle (I measured it at 3 feet deep at one part) I bogged it out because I submerged the tailpipe (that puts extra back pressure on the engine and causes it to stall). But apart from that I've made it through huge puddles and really steep hills, so by all means test the water first, but go for it!
You probably know this already, but there is a vent on the rear differential. It doesn't even have a hose on it to get the opening higher. Since you were in deep water, it would be a good idea to change the lube, as some water may have gotten in.
