AMAZING Starting
Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to say that I am really impressed with my 2000 F-350, 7.3L PSD, cold starts. I live in Ontario, Canada, and I took it "up north" for a weekend, and I had no problem starting it in -26 degree Celcius temperatures, which is approx. -16 degrees F. I did NOT have the truck plugged in, and i just waited for the "wait to start" light to go off (about 15 sec.) and it started up right away. It was noisey, but it was running non the less. I was just amazed that a diesel would start in such cold temps without plugging it in. Is this normal?

AMAZING Starting
My old 6.9 starts within 3 seconds everytime regardless of the temp(doesn't even get close to -16 here in Texas though ) I would say that is great. the powerstrokes seem to be really good starting motors. along way from some of the cummins I have driven in our work trucks in the past, they seem to hate cold.

from what i understand, internationals version of the powerstroke doesn't even have glow plugs.....
ours down at work, i never wait for the glow plugs, and it gets plenty cold here too (eastern nebraska) below 0 and all that
from what every one has told me the direct injection deisels will always start easier, and the sign for a direct injection deisel is that it will always smoke white on start.
my 6.9 always starts in cold but i gotta use glow plugs even when its 100 out on a cold start, or u gotta crank way too much.
