I've removed the Pertronics Ignitor ll during an engine change, and I've forgotten how to reconnect it. I seem to remember that there's something different about it. Can someone help me out before I melt this thing? Thanks.
Eric.
The red wire needs 12v. The black wire goes back to the "neg" side of the coil.
IF you have stock coil, you cannot use the "+" terminal on the coil for the Pertronics, becuase it is getting 8v due to the resistor wire in the lead under the dash. In the case of useing a stock coil, a new sounce of 12v is needed for the Ignitor unit -- suggest running new wire from switch under dash.
If you are using a aftermarket coil such as Flamethrower etc you can give it the full 12v. In which case, you can get your 12v for the Pertronix from the "+" side of the coil. But you will have to either remove the ballast resistor wire, or run a new lead direct from the switch so BOTH are getting 12v.
Make sense? Probably not, but I tried to cover both possibilities that you may confront.
Yup, it does make sense. I recall now that what's unusual is that the distributor has two wires coming out of it. We fire up the new 352 tomorrow!
Thanks, cd.
