My buddy suggested we do this to my air intake before the filter to get more air flow. Is this a good idea will I get improved MPG, better tourqe, higher revs ? What can I expect. What will the hotter air it sucks in from the engine compartment do?
Your opinions please

Im sure you can expect everything you listed: "improved MPG, better tourqe, higher revs".....
Hey i did this mod cause im cheap... i think ive benefited from all that..??
I did this to my 02 V-10.I had a stock replacement AFE filter laying around.Kind of the poor man's set up.Sounds good.I am afraid to check the mileage.I love my truck and thats all that matters,Mark
I did this in my old truck with the OEM k&n replacement. Didnt really see an increase in fuel economy, and I had to clean it to often so I put it back to stock with the k&n filter in there. IMO, it just gets dirty faster, but it sounds cool when u step on it.
well, you would need more hot air just to get the same amount of oxygen that a cooler dence air has. This setup most likely increases air flow, but look at every aftermarket intake and notice the air deflector. You "home brew" setup may benefit from a little more redneck engineering, with some plastic or mdf board to make a sort of blockade between the engine and the filter.
with the extra turbulence you subjected the filter to by removing the intake tube it probably doesn't flow much more air than it did before you whacked it off.
I cut mine not so far back, then cut 3 holes in behind the grille to force cool air to the filter housing. Also remove some of the rubber cladding in front of the airbox to let air to the box.I think letting hot air to engine does not help, even though more air gets in,the introduction of some hot air negates any gain.Check my gallery for the holes i drilled behind grille.
