Well I may have an opportunity at getting a diesel F-250, and keep my payments the same.
Here's what I have: 02 F-150 super crew lariat 4dr 5.4L 4x4 3.55LS, complete with all the goodies, it has 90k all highway miles. I bought this truck last October, I really wanted a F-250 6spd Diesel, but couldn't find one at all.
What I have found is a 02 F-250 Supercab 4dr xlt 6spd short box 4x4, 7.3L with tow pkg and new Gy workhorses, and 70k miles...only down side is there is some burns in the seats from cigarettes. I test drove it today, and it runs great.
I wont get into the finacial details, but if I get even remotely close to the trade in value that KBB suggests on the F-150, and condisdering what I have left owing, I should end up with very close to the same payments, mabey just a few months to a year longer.
I currently dont tow any thing at the moment, but I plan on inside 2 years time.
I know that I'm losing seating cabablity, but I could be gaining a truck with lower miles and more towing power, and possibly better fuel economy, and maybe a truck that holds it's value better.
Um no.....but give me a contact number for this 250....man it sounds like a HORRIBLE truck...you should NOT get it
btw I am joking, if you dont need the extra seating room, and plan on towing more than say 6k lbs...I would do it, it des get better mileage and diesel is signifigantly cheaper.....plus I love the SDs
Well it depends if you want to pay your truck off sooner and have the 1/2 ton, or run with the big boys??? I would do that in a heartbeat, but then again, all my trucks are paid off. Your call, but I'd go SD, just my .02
Since it is the truck you wanted, I would get it, though I would have the engine checked out carefully with a compression test amoung other things since the diesels are a lot more expensive to rebuild including the injection systems. You still have seating for at least five in a super cab, just not as comfy. Plus, the diesel will hold its value better and get better mileage. Just learn how to do a good job changing the oil since it runs about $80 if someone else does it.
Working on diesels is nothing new to me, so I'm not afraid to do that part. Not to mention I do all my own work, or I have buddies that can do the heavy duty stuff for a couple of 12 packs + parts.
The F-250's motor is still under warranty, which is a bonus to me. I'm pretty much sold on the truck, its just a matter of convincing the wife that we really dont need the auto for the 1 or 2 times that she "might" drive it (not to mention that she knows how to drive a clutch), and a matter of sitting down to do some dickering.
On the extreme end I figure my payments would go up 40 bucks, and extend out about 8 mo.
Ahh just tell her that you will get better fuel mileage w/the diesel and w/the standard transmission. Plus take her to the pumps and show her how much cheaper diesel is than gas. We helped you with the easy part, the hard part of convincing her is up to you, LOL
Well, upon much consideration, and number crunching, I've decided to keep my existing rig for long as possible untill I absolutely need a newer, or larger rig.
Not to mention that since the diesels sell like hotcakes, and they were very, very unwilling to deal with me. Since I wasnt in a dire need for a larger truck, I did not see the reason to bend over and grab my ankels for the dealership.
But thats the way it sometimes goes....But hey I still have my trusty Ford!
