I have a 92 F150 ext.cab and am wanting to upsize to a crewcab PSD. I have heard a little about add-on overdrives and would like to know more about them. What are the pros and cons, who makes them, how do they work, what kind of mileage, any websites about dealers? Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
What exactly are you planning to do? converting a 1/2 ton ext cab to 1 ton crew cab would be insanity, so I'm guessing your not planning that. The only overdrive I know of is an alternative name for high gear. So, what are you planning?
Starting with either 98 or 99 model year (I forget which) the PSD comes equipped with a 6 speed ZF transmission which has it's own internal oil pump. Dump that F 150 and get a Power Stroke!
I know what overdrive is, and no I'm not turning my F150 into a F350 crewcab diesel. A guy I used to work with had one and he had metioned something about an aftermarket part, I believe it works like a 2 speed rear end if I remember correctly. I think he called it a gear vendor, I have also seen other trucks for sale saying they had U S Gears. Does anyone know what the hell I am talking about or am I screwed up?
I found what I was looking for. It is actually an auxillary transmission. Web address gearvendors.com Now, does anyone have one? I would like to know how it is and was it worth the money?
