ok, evrything works on my truck, right?
check this..... when i turn on my a/c, 2 things happen.
1 my temp gauge climbs to right at the 'hot' level and
2 my oil pressure gauge goes to 'high'.
i already checked the water and oil levels, recently changed the thermostat and water pump and valve cover gaskets and radiator. any thoughts? it runs fine, i just dont want to crack the heads like i did on my last motor.
thanx
Are you talking an instantaneous spike, or a gradual rise? If the moment you turn the AC on the gauges spike, it's probably and electrical malfunction.
it runs hotter at both fast and slow... the history is that ive put replaced just about everything but the condenser, but im not sure if replacing that would help. heater core, radiator, thermostat, waterpump, and top radiator hose have been done pretty recent.
Strange problem. If this was my 87 i'd try removing fuse 9 (AC clutch switch & blower motor) & see if the gauges still act crazy. Sounds like some sort of electrical problem with the gauge.
Did these problems begin before you did all this work????
What event preceeded the guages acting up????
On the coolant temp thing, I hesitate to ask this, but are you certain you didn't install the thermostat backwards, if it can be done so, on your year/model??
When you replaced the radiator, was it with the same sized one????
I noticed you replaced the top radiator hose but not the bottom one.
Are you shure the bottom one isn't soft & collapsing some & restricting coolant flow.
On the oil pressure rise, did it occur at the same time the coolant temp guage began acting up???
ok new thing ive noticed.
when the a/c is on and everything is going wierd, when i turn the a/c completely off and the temp gage settles back down, as does my oil pressure gage. not sure if that means somethin or not. i just noticed this tonite, when i was on my way to a friend's graduation.
pawpaw-
both problems happen at the same time. i checked all the hoses, i know the thermostat is in correct because i watched a mechanic friend do it at the same time he did the water pump. the water pump and radiator are original replacement parts. anything else?
it hasnt really overheated yet, i just dont want to crack the heads again. and this is a recent problem, 1 month after water pump and hose replacement, about 6 months after radiator replacement. and it only does it when i turn the ac on high. replaced the radiator cause it was blocked about halfway down, and the waterpump was starting to go out, so i got a mechanic friend to do it while i watched.
