This may be crazy?

I've been looking for a small bus to do a RV conversion on. I've found one I like, 79 conventional Bluebird, 35 passenger. It has a 370 2V in it currently. Looking at the HP and torque, a 300 I6 seems to be about the same as the 370. I plan to totally rebuild the engine or put something else in it and was wondering if going with the 300 would be feasible? I know my dad had an old pickup with one and it seemed bullet proof.

It will be a dedicated propane system, high compression, whatever sort of cam/exhaust/bore/pistions/headwork etc... required. Durability, ample power, and efficiency of operation are my concerns. Would the 300 have enough lead in it's pencil for this sort of job?

I don't mind spending more now for the build if it's gonna "pay-off" with fuel savings in the long haul.

Thanks, Kevin

they are not.
the 370 was allways rated as a comercial/industrial/medium-duty engine.
that means its #s are for continous operation instead of peak #'s
