Engine Rebuild

So I have a couple questions I am in the middle of rebuilding my engine, and have a couple questions

1) should I(or would it benifit me) botre the cylinders out like mybe .030 over stock? and if I do what are some good pistons and rods to put in it. even if I dont bore it what are good pistons to use.

2) Should I get a new crank?

3) whats a good cam to use to keep the low end and add a few more horsepower?

4) what kind of work should I have done to the head, other than Port and Polish?

Which Engine????? For the sake of arguement we'll assume it's a 300CID I-6 (I HATE METRICS!!!)

have the shop clean the cylinders up to the smallest oversize which gives a round (no offset) reading.

If the crank bearing surfaces aren't too worn (.030 or worse) then resurface and reuse.

Crane makes a 260 cam which is really popular.

Port and polish / 3 angle valve job is minimum you should go for. Clean up the valve pockets open the ports up some. Get someone who is knowledgeable about 300's. You could go with SBC (1.96/1.60) valves but I'm not sure if you have to get different pistons or not.

Best thing to do is to say I have a XX-F-150 with a 300 (or 4.9L if you're in to metrics) Some people DO post about bent 6's and bent 8's here. Not too often mind ya but often enough.

Previous post.....That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

What are you going to do with this motor? That will determine how you should build it.

The amount of increase in cid you gain through an overbore is pretty minimal. The real reason people usually do this, like Mr. deruoin said is to correct a wear pattern in the cylinder. A minimum overbore, 010 or 030 probably isn't a bad idea just to be safe. As far as the pistons your machine shop should be able to get a couple different kinds, for what you're doing cast should be fine. My 300 is at the machine now. I plan on doing about the same as you with my truck and what I'm having done is a minimum overbore, turn the crank 10/10, resize the rods, assemble rods and balance the rotating assembly. The heads are getting a budget port and polish and a valve job. Where are you located?

Awesome town. You should be able to find a good machine shop there. The crane cam is very popular as mentioned. Isky also makes a good cam for the 300. If you're going to port the head and use a hotter cam mine as well get some EFI manifolds or headers. An Offy and a 500 probably wouldn't hurt either.

Mt engine is EFI so I have the manifolds already but I am thinking of getting headers cause I broke 2 of the bolts in the manifolds and I am kind of feeling lazy. So if anyone needs some EFI exhaust manifolds and doesnt mind getting the bolts out Make me an offer.
