I have a 98 UK spec Explorer. (4.0L V6)
Whilst looking under the bonnet (sorry, hood) for any sign of a vacuum leak,
(bank running lean), I noticed the compressor clutch switching on/off at idle.
2 questions:
1. Should this be happening when the A/C is not switched on?
2. Idle speed changes when compressor/clutch activates is this normal?
It seems to switch on for a few seconds then off for 20 seconds.
Being from the UK, we rarely have to use A/C so my knowledge of it is limited.
Any help would be great.
Yes, the AC compressor will run in other positions besides the AC positions. The IAC will also increase the idle when the AC compressor engages, so this is normal also.
