My uncle reposessed a '79 F150 XLT, Lariat, Ranger, Explorer and gave it to his brother, my dad, back around '81. It was two wheel drive, long bed, white with red in the middle. That truck had every bell and whistle avaliable at the time it was built, I guess. Wish I had another chance at it now! Man, if we only knew then what we know now. Oh well, reading the thread brought back memories.
yep 78' was the first year of the lariat mainly interior refinements two tone door panel inserts that matched the two tone cloth and vinyl seat headliner was vinyl with some little chrome and vinyl trim pieces and a lariat badge on the glove box the outside looked the same as an xlt accept the tailgate was completly trimed out like the 73-77 xlt's were they droped the big top piece on the tailgate on the xlt's in 78 . the lariat's are the answer to the XLT luxuriuos optoin of the 76-77 year models that you just don't find around anymore these were those nice gold or tan colored xlt's you see that had the biege colored interiors with the biege steering column & wheel and the biege colored door weather striping rare rare rare can't remember if it's shown in the 76 or 77 brochures o yeah the instument cluster was all wood grained not just inside the chrome edges these also had the wood grain filler on the glove box before it became standard all models in 78. The xlt's in 78 had the vinyl woodgrain look door panel inserts and cloth seat .
How rare are these trucks anyway, I just bought one for 1000.00 cdn. 460 full load, 125,000 kms, rusty though. I was going to use it as a donor to put on a 79 4x4 frame but the old girl is more solid than some 2 yr old trucks I've been in. Maybe it's worth a restore?
