Thumbs up battery tray replacement options

yesterday, I starting building a replacement for my '85 f-250's battery tray. Both the '84 and the '85 trays were totally shot. I did ordered one from JBG, but I accidently ordered the wrong one (got an 94-96 one). Originally, they were $40 dollars, now they are $70, and I forgot to send it back for a trade

Anyway, the tray on my beater was in somewhat decent shape, but it was failing fast. So, I used it as a template. I'm mostly done, but I still have to work out some finishing touches. It is made out of 3/16" plate, so it'll probably last about 20 more years than the factory one. I'll post some pics when I am done.

So, that leaves my beater without a place to mount the battery, and a '94 battery tray, and some left over 3/16" plate. hmmm..

this is what I came up with, I still need to get a '94+ hold down clamp, but I should be able to find one in the yard pretty cheap.. I actually like how easy this one was to build.. If you need to build one, go find a 94+ in the junkyard, and do this.. pretty simple and only took a couple hours, not to mention save you about $50 bux, unless you live in a 'sunshine' state where none of your trucks rust...

Here's my 86, with the 87-up battery tray and charcoal cannister mount:

Bolted right in, no problems whatsoever. But, the late model plastic holdown thing sucks in a high vibration enviroment, hence the 80-86 holdown

did it have an extra flange for the two bolts on the charcoal cannister?

mine didn't. I'm guess they changed them in 94, since mine had F4TZ stamped on it..

I just welded an extra flange on it so I could bolt it up to the charcoal bracket thing...

how does the plastic flange fail? I was thinking about making one out of plate.. but that would probably destroy the battery..
