I was just wondering that myself. I was at the boneyard and found an 86 missing the seat, and it had two wires and a plug on the end coming thought the floor. The other day I was looking for something in my truck, thinking it fell under the seat, and I noticed the same wires coming though the floor and into the bench on my 86. It seems to go into the seatbelt, however, my truck dosn't have a seat belt warning light. Maybe some did?

Are you sure? I've never seen one without one. Mine's just left of the high beam light (I think, it's left of the center anyway). Anyway, the two wires go to the drivers seat belt. When the key is turned to "on" and the seat belt isn't fastened, the buzzer will sound for a couple seconds. The light comes on reguardless of the seat belt.
But a module...hmmm...I seem to recall hearing the Duraspark III computers are under the seat. Can anyone verify this?
nope its not for a cb radio. the Wiring harness for the whole truck goes into it. But none of my electical diagrams for the truck show this module's purpose.
Huh, I dont know what it could be then? Maybe the earlier trucks had the ECM mounted under the seat? Try unplugging it and see if the truck stays running. Your truck has the TFI ignition system with a variable venturi carb. right? or does it have durasparkII.
the wiring under the seat is for a module that makes noise for you seatbelt warning and crap like that, if it is just an empty plug someone took the module out as it also buzzes whenever the door is open and is annoying as hell. unfortunatly by taking this module out you also loose the warning buzzer for the lights being on after you turn off the truck.
Dura Spark III/EEC-III has the Electronic Control Assembly under the seat. It has a 32 pin connector. Dura Spark III was used in '80-'83 Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles with 5.0/5.8L engines. It's not real common though. They are low emissions engines and I think there were probably more sold in California than anywhere else.

My truck does have a seatbelt light, but it only comes on for a few seconds after you start, and has no connection to the seat belt at all. No buzzer or anything. My truck has EEC IV
The wiring to the seat belt was probably unplugged or taken out altogether. You do have a buzzer; that's what controls the light. It's on top of or behind the glove box. It just won't sound without the seat belt wiring.
It's the same as the key buzzer? That works, and so does the headlight buzzer. The wiring is still under the seat and connected, the truck is pretty unfooled around with. I don't think it was disconnected. There was only one previous owner, and he didn't touch anything at all in the 3 years he had it.
Yeah it is the same buzzer. When I had the original seat in, it was all hooked up but the buzzer never worked. I never even knew it was supposed to buzz for the seat belt until I put a different seat and plugged it in, and it worked. There must be something in the switch that wears out or breaks.
a lot of vehicles that have the premium sound system have the amp under the pass. seat. it has a large wiring harness going to and from the back of the radio.
