01 dual exhaust

I want to dual out my 01 lariat. the 02 sensers and cats are ahead of the y pipe.An exhaust shop said it couldnt be done becuase the LS pipe would be to close to the fuel tank,which I understand. but has anyone done this or om I just wasting my time putting on duals or would a catback be better. I am looking for performance not ease of installation

Run both pipes down the passenger side.
