Camshaft Swap

I'm porting the heads on my 1998 F150 4X4 4.6L SOHC, and I've heard that the camshafts from the 1999 mustang GT 4.6L SOHC are a good upgrade for my ported heads. I've also purchased a pair of JBA shorty headers. Are the 1999 gt cams compatible with my heads? Anything I need to know? How about some feedback please.

The GT cams are the same as the trucks. Hotrod magazine pulled a 4.6L from a 99GT and installed a 2000 Van 5.4L. They checked the heads and measured the cams and they were exactly the same. I would look into CompCams if you want something a little larger.
I don't think that the PI heads had different camshafts, just much better intake ports.

the PI motor in the mustang had different cams and different intake.

Tuning is required if you go to the different cams.

Not according to the Hotrod engine swap. They were exactly the same in the 5.4L truck motor and the 99 GT 4.6L that they pulled out to install the 5.4. The intakes are different due to rpm range and hood clearance, but the heads and cams were identical.
