If the tank were not filled to the top..........like the 4 to 5 gallons that at times will not go in without a bunch of work.............then mathematically it would be figured to achieve that................sorta.........well maybe.............probably not………..but on the other hand……if ……………..heck I have no idea how it got that

My 7.3 couldnt come close to that mileage ever. Still zero problems.

What did your 7.3 get and were they comparable to how you drove and the type of roads you drive on.?

We had a thread on the variables that affect mileage. There are many. Wind, barometric pressure, temperature, tires, tire pressure, geography, fuel condition, driving habits, etc. You will get varying fuel economy with the same vehicle. I can believe the 22 mpg not 31. I am even sceptical of the 22.

Have to go with SBV45 on this one...
while I would LOVE that kind of mileage -
I find it hard to believe you can move 7000+ lbs around and get that type of mileage ...
My trip to Elvis land and back got me in the 15 to 18 mpg range in the Ex depending on the leg of the trip and how fast I felt I could go...

Fuel Mileage
I just drove from Tampa to Ormond Beach...293 miles 20.2 gal...which is just a shade under 20 mpg...kept it just above the speed limit all the way...about 85 degrees....all stock except bed cover and I used Powerservice diesel additive....The lowest mileage I have gotten is around 16...mostly has been around 17.5 mpg....very happy with the mileage...

31 MPG is roughly 50% better than the high averages reported by most people on this site. The mileage is supposed to improve after break-in of 5K to 10K miles. The highest mileage I have heard of on a broken-in engine was around 22MPG. With 1600 miles on the odometer, my best has been
19 MPG driving like grandma.
To what do you attribute your absolutely un-believable mileage?
