My wife's Honda Accord gets 31 mpg on the road. I just don't believe a 6.0 is going to get 31 unless it is a downhill, tail wind with sail and a JATO bottle attached.

900 miles per 29 gallons of fuel is totally unbelievable when most of what I am hearing is guys are lucky to be averaging half of that on a stock truck.

If the tank were not filled to the top..........like the 4 to 5 gallons that at times will not go in without a bunch of work.............then mathematically it would be figured to achieve that................sorta.........well maybe.............probably not………..but on the other hand……if ……………..heck I have no idea how it got that

I drove my truck from South Carolina to Ohio 75 mph and got 22 mpg. It just truned 7000 miles . Before this trip it got 18 no matter highway or city. It seems to be getting better as it gets some mile on it.
My 7.3 couldnt come close to that mileage ever. Still zero problems.

What did your 7.3 get and were they comparable to how you drove and the type of roads you drive on.?

We had a thread on the variables that affect mileage. There are many. Wind, barometric pressure, temperature, tires, tire pressure, geography, fuel condition, driving habits, etc. You will get varying fuel economy with the same vehicle. I can believe the 22 mpg not 31. I am even sceptical of the 22.

Have to go with SBV45 on this one...
while I would LOVE that kind of mileage -
I find it hard to believe you can move 7000+ lbs around and get that type of mileage ...

My trip to Elvis land and back got me in the 15 to 18 mpg range in the Ex depending on the leg of the trip and how fast I felt I could go...

I truly think it's just in the way the mileage is calculated. Even if it was downhill for 800 miles I'd find it hard pressed to believe it would get better than 25 mpg.

Thumbs up Fuel Mileage

I just drove from Tampa to Ormond Beach...293 miles 20.2 gal...which is just a shade under 20 mpg...kept it just above the speed limit all the way...about 85 degrees....all stock except bed cover and I used Powerservice diesel additive....The lowest mileage I have gotten is around 16...mostly has been around 17.5 mpg....very happy with the mileage...

31 MPG is roughly 50% better than the high averages reported by most people on this site. The mileage is supposed to improve after break-in of 5K to 10K miles. The highest mileage I have heard of on a broken-in engine was around 22MPG. With 1600 miles on the odometer, my best has been
19 MPG driving like grandma.

To what do you attribute your absolutely un-believable mileage?
