Broken Frnt Spring?

Driving down the road yesterday and all the sudden got this loud BANG BANG from the front end,, after stopping and crawling around i noticed a leaf spring on the front of my SD was BROKEN.. Any of ya'll experienced this? cant say i have ever heard of this before on this site or any others. I did take several pictures and will try and post them here. The guys at my local stealership said they have never seen this before.. These guys are very honest and i trust them totally, but surely this is not the first time this has happened. I could understand a rear spring, or maybe even a front spring on a truck that has been pulling a really heavy gooseneck trailer,, all I pull is my bass boat. Is this just one of those thigns that happen or what? And to think i was going to put my add a leafs in the front end this weekend. what makes this really worse is Ford will not warranty it,, Service manager has been trying since yesterday and they wont even do a 50\50 deal, Ford says 36,000 miles is it on springs, no warranty after that. dealer says its gonna cost me 315.00, which is no big deal really, its just the point of the matter.. wondering now if i should do the add a leaf or not?

since they don't normally break you should be able to find one in a wrecking yard or one from somebody that replaced theirs with a lift kit.
Have you got a son that is old enough to drive? I broke a pack of leaves once on a 58 Ford truck. I was 16. I wasn't doin nuthin, I swear.

Nobody has ever driven this truck but me, I guarantee you i have been much harder on my previous trucks over the years than i ever have on this one.The hardest this f350 works is pulling my 5000lb bass boat about 3 miles a day, thats it.. Ok heres the pics,,

I would ask around to spring shops and see what they say about the way your spring broke. I know nothing about springs but they might be able to tell you something.

There is a mark across the top, right by the break, I wonder what caused this, like somthing made contact there. $300 dollars sounds rediculous.

Dam, I had a rear spring break on my 99 psd, but never a front on any truck.
Like 68 said, $300 for 1 side sounds a bit high to me also.

Nah,,no fat chicks,, When i was a few years younger i had a low rider chebby and had a bumper sticker that said not fat chicks the tires will rub,,, I guess i forgot to mention in my earlier post that the 315.00 was to replace both front springs, I had requested that. they are also willing to install my add a leafs too, for no charge while they are there.. Still cant believe Ford wouldnt warranty the spring..

I noticed the mark by the break also, but thought it was just a piece that came off with the break. Looking closer, it appears to be a rust mark. If so, I'd say the leaf has/was defective since the truck was built. Maybe I'm reaching.

It appears that the leaf was cracked for a while,, the spot ya'll talking about is a rust spot for sure, if only i had seen it before the warranty was over..

Never seen that before. I've owned and abused three F250's and never done that! Must have been bad material. Fr the 300 the dealers asking might as well get an after market leveling kit that comes with springs.

I appreciate the offer for the Springs for sure, not to many places on the net you can get an offer like that, Lots of good folks on FTE..!!, I dont think they are the same as my f350 psd,, if i remember right there are 2 different springs for the superdutys,, 1 for diesels and 1 for gassers.. I'll just let Ford replace them and add my add a leafs and see what happens next. The chances of breaking another Front spring are about as good as the chances of me winning the lottery i'm sure..
