About 2 weeks ago I got True dual on my truck (5.4L) with no mufflers, straight pipes. Its sound greeaat. and all it cost me was $200 at a local shop. I think its alot better then spending $500 on a borla system which doesn't even compare to the sound of 2 straight pipe. I don't know if I gained any mpg, becuase I'm always on the gas. Gained some hp but lost alot of torque. I used to be able to squeal the tire by just flooring it on a
dead stop, but now it just takes off with a load rummble. The best thing about it is when I start it up in the morning and the engine jumps up to 1300 rpm right away.
Well the house in the way of are neighnors but the driveway is right next to the police department!!!!!!!!. but they won't do nothing to me because where I park my truck by the road. The police cars hide behind my truck to catch speeders.

You can't compare regular muffler shop tubing to a Borla system. Borla is expensive, but you have to consider the quality (all stainless steel, mandrel bends). I bet your pipes will be rusty in a few months, and that no muffler rumble will probably get annoying after a while. But thats just my opinion, whatever floats your boat
The system needs a certain amount of back pressure to achieve the right balance. Removing the muffler would remove some of the back pressure resulting in more rpm's (it's breathing free) but losing torque.
Bikes encouter this all the time when they remove the stock exhaust and install a free flowing system. They usually need to be rejetted and most of the horsepower is then made at the top of the rpm scale instead of in middle where most can use it.
I always thought that was what the cats were for. I didn't think the muffler had anything to do with the torgue or anything other than quieting the engine down.
I ask the shop that put my exhaust system on if he could put a x-pipe on and he said it would be to hard to. think I could get by with a H-pipe (I would have to cut holes into the straight pipe and weld one in myself). Would that give me some of my torque back. I just drilled 4 holes (2 in each pipe) in the staight pipe to allow the water to drip out. Im glad I did that after I did that I let the truck idel for 5 min and there was alot of water on the floor. even after turning the truck off it was dripping for about 10 min.

I just went with true duals this weekend, on my 2003 F150 with the 5.4L and I love it. It is certainly loud. The exhaust shop was supposed to put on some FreeFlow mufflers, one on each side, but get this, the mechanic forgot. So right now I just have headers, 2 cats, and then straight pipes back. This coming weekend I'm going to have him put the mufflers on, I asked them if I could wait a week and drive around without any mufflers just to see if I liked the sound, and I sure do
