You can, but I wouldn't waste the money on the distributor. The Duraspark stocker is just as good for your application. If the motor is stock, then the box will not be a big benefit either. They are really made to help high compression, high rpm, high performance engines burn the highly compressed richer fuel mixture more completely.
Actually the DS-2 system is better and it provides many benefits:
Better performance under 5500 RPM
Start timing retard
Lower cost
Greater reliability with Motorcraft units*
Parts available anywhere
Free module testing at most parts stores
Troubleshooting charts readily available in any service manual
Why would you use anything else???
The only reason I can think of for using an aftermarket unit is if you wanted a rev limiter for use with a std tranny. You can use a MSD # 8728 for that with the DS-2 module.
Remember to mount the DS-2 module 1/4" off the fender with standoffs to allow cooling air circulation.
*Note, most of the aftremarket DS-2 replacement units are junk.
