i was wondering if there are headders produced for the 300 6 cyl and if so where would i buy or order them from ? and if it is 1 long headder of if it is produced in 2 pieces and also if anyone knows a price range what it is????
and by the way i just put a glasspack on there and it sounds like a very angery bullfrog!
More like $100 to $300. Depends on the brand and quality. Mine were new off of ebay for $89 and $122 total shipped. They are Doug Thorley. The ligned up perfectly and have a 3/8" flange and no leaks at the connection to the head. I wouldn't use the included gaskets as they are paper and won't last, just get a good gasket that costs about $14 at Napa.If you live in an area were they salt the roads or by the beach or a lake get them ceramic coated about $100 but worth it.
The fuel injected 300 I-6's used a tubular exhaust manifold (much like a header) from the factory. You can get them off any junyard truck or van with the 300 cheap (here they are 30-50 dollars if you pull the exhaust).
They have a cataletic converter attched where the 2 downpipes come in, so if you are going to eliminate the cat, you will need to get a 2into1 pipe either made, or I believe walker carries one. I just had the exhaust shop make one when they put on the 2.5" exhaust/high flow cat. Or run duals from there... seen it done, but I don't care for the sound.
well thanks for the explaination i get the picture now i know of a few junk yards around and i have a buddy that works in an exhaust shop and i can do the work from there so thanks again
Thats a good question, but I have heard of a few people adding them with a carbed intake. But if your going through that trouble just get a new intake manifold at the same time like a clifford or offenhauser.
There is no comparison between the EFI manifolds and real headers unless the head on a carb engine is lots worse than the EFI engine. I'm sure there is a big difference between a regular log manifold and the EFI manifolds so the difference between the EFI's and headers is less pronounced, but there is a very significant gain over EFI manifolds with headers.
ok so tell me where would be the best place to get the intake and the header could i get them from any preformance shop?? or would i have to order them from the manufacture???
