The only difference between the EFI and carb heads is the EFI's have smaller fast burn chambers...
EFI manifolds flow decently, but, are not in the same league as headers, and if you plan on running true duals, the manifolds sound like, well, crap...
EFI heads have more manifold bolt holes, the EFI lower intake manifold has more bolt holes than a carb intake. Also, most EFI heads had air injection, so might want to plug those holes.
There is no comparison between the EFI manifolds and real headers unless the head on a carb engine is lots worse than the EFI engine. I'm sure there is a big difference between a regular log manifold and the EFI manifolds so the difference between the EFI's and headers is less pronounced, but there is a very significant gain over EFI manifolds with headers.
Do you have any dyno comparisons that support those power gains? I'm in the process of bolting on the EFI exhaust manifolds this weekend. I based my decision to go with the EFI manifolds on many assertions on this board on how the EFI manifolds only flow about 3-5% less than tubular headers. If I'm not going to be happy with the results, I'd like to know now.
Compared to the stock carb manifold, the EFI's are a large improvement, just not as large as headers.
As for headers, Summitracing, Jegs, et-al carry 'em... Hedman part #89-300 fits most trucks with a 300(they have the 3/8" flange). Only listed as fitting 2wd, that's likle true 65-79, but, 80-up, they work just fine on 2wd and 4wd. They list for $140 at Summit.
Yeah, there's more places to hold the intake manifold onto the head on the EFI head(only like 2 extra holes) I'll go look right now and get back with the correct info.
82F100SWB 96 I6 what year headers will match up with it I can't find header for that year, that part number is it 500-89300 and do you think it would work on mine motor.
It will fit your 96, but, it doesn't not have any emissions hookups. It will need to have oxygen sensor fittings welded in and soforth. You will also have to modify your alternator bracket.
The instructions for mine indicated modifying the alternator bracket and part of the stock intake manifold. Reality is the alternator bracket required no modifications and my offenhauser c series requires some serious trimming. Just my experience.
... Hedman part #89-300 fits most trucks with a 300...
Sorry, I got annoyed with Summit's computerized answering - Are the Hedmans a single 2 1/2" out, or dual 2" ? Also, how's the starter clearance ( heat/proximity, R & R...)
Dual 2.5" out, starter clearance is good once you get it in there, R&R can be a PITA... I did it a couple times with a big 'ol prybar to spread the pipes apart so it would drop out..
Invest in a late model reduction drive permanent magnet starter and a heat sheild, and you will never have to worry about that though.
