Hi everyone! This is my first post on this site, I have been lurking for a few months now and would like opinions on my situation...
I am looking at trading in my 01 F-150 4X4 off road with a 5.4 for a F-250 Lariat 4X4 diesel, I am getting $15,000 on a trade in for my truck..good shape with 47,000 miles.
If I wait for the 05s my truck with be worth a little less than if I buy an 04 with the $2,000 rebate,..
I dont really see the major difference in looks between the 04s and 05s..
Plus with the new coil front I dont want to be the consummer tester for any problems with the new front end till they get the bugs worked out....
Do any of you think it would be worth the wait and extra cash for the 05 or should I just get the 04 now, I'm leaning towards the 04 but who knows....Thanks for any feed back......drf
personally i would go with a 05. There shouldnt be many problems at all with the coil front end and you will enjoy the tighter turning radius. But who know with a truck with so much being changed.
I had somewhat the same situation. I finally decided on an V10 powered 04 because this model has been out for some time and problems are virtually eliminated. Or at least lessoned to a point that it's not a concern. New front suspension, 3 valve heads, and related parts caused me some concern on the first year models because I've never been in a dealer that didn't try getting into my pockets when it came to repairs. They always seem to have some excuse about why I should pay for this or that. I buy thinking the product is good and I'll never use the warrantee. If I have doubts about the product I don't care how good the warrantee is, I'm not happy.
Be careful about dealers that promise high trade-in $. It's all a game, they'll offer high but start at MSRP. I like starting at invoice and work from there. Might get less on trade but pay less in actual purchase. You just have to be realistic about what your trade-in is worth. Do your homework, research the many sources on the net. Lots of good info and there are some real honest salesman out there but always remember, they have to make a living too! I just want them to make as good a living as I do.

Definitely go with the '05 if you can, especially if your going lariat. In the lariat you can get automatic temperature control and a more advanced "computer". Plus you won't have a brand new truck thats already a year old!
I would expect the rebates on the 04's to go higher since the 05 info is out. Anyway I would go for an 05 and hopefully the diesel problems mentioned so much on this site will have been fixed. Also the 05 warrantee for the diesel is 250K instead of 100K miles. If you're looking for pure performance and you aren't going to drive alot the new V10 should easily out accelerate and pull the diesel.
I'm with Sparky on this one. I always buy my vehicles when they've been out for a while and the major issues have been addressed. I just bought an 04 V10 earlier this month and love it! I wanted the leaf spring fronts beacuse its more heavy duty and I don't mind a rough ride. In fact my bike has such firm shocks its almost a rigid! Talk about rough ride, the truck feels like a limo compared to that. Plus the 2 vlave V10 is now a proven engine.

Your kidding RIGHT. The V-10 will out pull the Diesel?
I would say go 05 but I just don't like them switching to a coil front suspension and also I hate this big wheel fad where you see 4x4's running down the road with 18" and up wheels. If you are going to never go off road then whatever, go ahead with the street racer wheels. Take those things off road and they are not going to hold up with the thinner sidewall tire that are being put on them. Just my 2 cents.
True but what are you wanting in a truck? A street racer or an off roader. If you can't fit a good set of rotors into a 16" rim then you need to look elsewhere for rotors.
My opinion, the 04 is the last real SUPER Duty... Coil spring have not, nor will not hold up.. Never did, never will. They will lose their strength in time and have to be replaced. Diesel? Get your wallet out! With that kinda weight in the front, good luck. Rides nice, that's it...
Don't see coils on the rear end of any trucks do you???
I was in the same position a few months ago. I too went with the '04 because it's so many of the components are proven. I actually switched from Chevy to Ford to get the leaf springs up front. I happen to believe that coils belong in trucks where ride quality is more important than heavy-duty durability. Have you ever seen coils in a dump truck? I absolutely love my truck!! Even with the plow package, it rides and handles great. Just my $.02. Good luck!!!

The Ford heavy duty trucks have had issues with warping brakes for a long time. This may be their way of trying to address the issue. Chevy had the same problem in 1994+ on their suburbans and tahoes.
