E-350 Headlight Swap
I have a 94 E-350 Motorhome and the plastic headlights are starting to get foggy, so I was wondering if the headlights on the new E-350 are glass, is the light pattern the same, will they fit? I was wondering if the newer chrome grills will work? I mean the front end looks the same exept for the grille and bumper.
Thanks
Nicholas
When it comes to headlights, there are two trim levels; "low-line" and "high-line". The high-line units come on most "civilian" vans and are the so-called aerodynamic plastic headlights (utilizing a 9007 capsule...) we've all come to know and love. The low-line units come on the "working" vans and consist of the rectangular conventional glass bulb. You can, in fact, obtain the parts to convert a high-line to a low-line (and the other way too...), I've seen it done. You can buy 'em new OR hit the wrecking yards, that's what most of the folks I've talked to have done... I've seen one guy that converted to low-line just so he could utilize the most-excellent (and illegal 'cause they're NOT DOT-approved!) European headlamps.
As to the rest of the front fascia, I've heard that it, too, is backward compatible, at least to a point. I've seen lots and lots and lots of ads on eBay for conversion van take-off stuff that gives compatibility information. Having said that, I'll leave it to one of my other FTE peers to give you the definitive answer.
Good luck! I know how frustrating the plastic headlamps can be! I've owned enough Fords having them to be well aware of what I'm letting myself in for AND I make it worse by driving just about all the time with my lights on...
