Bumper and grill replacement

This is my first post. I signed up because I was in an accident and wanted to ask you guys/Gals something.

I rear-ended a small SUV @ 2 to 3 MPH in bumper to bumper traffic (pun intended) and it pushed my bumper up in the middle and down on both ends. It also cracked my grill and this piece of fiberglass that runs behind the grill and behind the light houseings.
Progressive insurance already mailed me a check for 1100$ They estimated the damage at 1600$. I dont see how cause its just the bumper the grill and that piece of fiberglass behind the grill. Anyway,

Question#1: Whats the big deal with doing it myself?
I am mechanically in clined and have worked on cars my whole life. 33yrs old now. I am just apprehensive and wanted to see if you guys/gals have any preimptive advice for me.
Question#2; where can I go online to get a schematic diagram of the front assembly? Or would a chiltons do just fine?

Its an 01 F150 XLT Triton Supercab.

I would do it myself with out hesitation. The grill and bumper are pretty straight forward, as for the as for the composite piece, it holds the light and and the park light and probably the air bag sensors and stuff like that. The headlights and park lamps will be the trickiest to get out but a Chilton or a good Ford garage can give you advice on this. Just make sure to check your bumper brackets for bent and the rad support also. Make sure to line your bumper up nice with the grill and fenders and don't forget to aim the head lights.
Good luck.

I am in the process of doing that right now to a 91 supercab I am replacing the hood, one headlight, grill, facia piece and bumper. I straightened the radiator yoke. That is the most important thing If that is bent, nothing will line up right. It is actually a very easy job and if you take it apart you will know how it goes back together. If you get your parts at a junk yard, make sure you take all the nuts and bolts also. Like Dixon18 said, make sure the frame horns are straight also. I have never used a schematic for anything like this but it would show you where all the nuts and bolts are but not absolutely necessary. Take your time and get all the gaps even and most of all, enjoy your self and you can say you fixed it with pride
