Bed Extender Question

How do you remove the bed extender? do you have to unscrew the 2 screws or do you have to manhandle the metal clips?

As I recall, you press the metal clips in, and the extender comes right off.

I have one and that is correct. Press the metal clips and it comes right off.

You have to unscrew the two screws before you can depress the clips.

On mine you do not have to unscrew anything before depressing the clips. You just have to have it flipped onto the tailgate before depressing the clips.

dcordle - There are screws that can be tightened to prevent the clips from being depressed. They exist to keep someone from casually removing your bed extender. Yours may have already been loosened when you got your truck, but if you don't have the locking clips screws at all, you may want to have your dealer supply them.

Okay... maybe. I'll take a closer look at it.

Exclamation

All you have to do is depress the spring clips on the outboard of the extender.

Another piece of advise, be sure you have the extender rotated properly so that the clips are down where you're unable to remove it when the tailgate is closed.

People (the bad guys) in Texas like them quite well and will try to take it off your hands, that's the second highest theft item on the trucks with the extender. The tailgate is first.

I've been trying to figure out how to secure the thing so it doesn't walk off. So you're saying that if you put it in with the clips up when extended, it can't be removed when stowed and the tailgate up?

The bed extender goes on with the tailgate down/open and the bed extender on the tailgate. When it's flipped into the bed and the tailgate closed it cannot be removed. So if you have a lock on your tailgate then your bed extender is safe.

That's right. The easy way to check is if you can squeeze the clips and take it off with the extender inside the bed, it's wrong. If that's the case, you flip it horizontally 180 degree's and it can't come off. Also, be sure to lock your tailgate. If they can't open it, they can't get the tailgate or the extender.....JR
