I started my 7.3L F250 today and the change fuel filter and water in the fuel bowl light came on. How do you change the filter, I have heard stories of people never getting there truck started agian. Is there a hand pump to work the fuel back into the system or do you just crank it untill it starts. Also what brand fuel filter do suggest useing.
The owners manuel tells you not to fill the filter with diesel fuel. Take a black marker and cross out the "NOT". You need to oil the gasket and make sure the filter is filled to the top and then tighten it as much as you can with your hand. I like to use motorcraft filters because they are pretty close to the same prices as the others. DO NOT use fram filters, either fuel or oil filters. Fram's air filters are the only good thing they make.
Not trying to argue or disagree, but what is wrong with fram filters? I have used them and never had any problems. If there is something I need to know about them then I will change brands.
As far as not getting your truck started again that will be the case if you don't fill up the fuel filter. Top it off to the very top and you will have no problems starting. I do this all the time and have never had a problem. Also since I don't keep diesel fuel around, I always buy a bottle of powerservice diesel fuel treatment and fill the filter up with that. It cleans the injectors and saves me the hassel of dealing with a can full of diesel.
Diesel Injection Service. They sell Racor fuel filters, which is the company that makes them for Ford,at a fraction of the cost of a Ford dealer. I order my filters from them and they are very good to deal with.
