Engine miss

73,000 miles. When I rev the engine up to 3000 rpms in neutral there is a very noticable miss. When the veh is placed in gear and rpms pass the 4000 mark there is no miss and no loss of engine power. It only happens when in neutral. All engine components are original except for the plugs and plug wires. It did the same thing before changing the plugs/plug wires so those aren't a factor. All fluids are normal colors. I'll see if there are any stored codes this weekend, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Um, kinda like the Doc sed when I tole him "it hurts when i do this: Dont do it any more"
You probably have the miss when the engine is loaded, but don't know it because the mass of the vehicle hides the 'surge' caused by a slight miss. Spark or fuel are the likely choices to investigate. How is your coil? Does it show arcing from the core to the iron?(of course this depends on model year, which was not given....) Fuel filter? Fuel pressure? ....any other maint items that should have been done, and weren't?

There is nothing wrong with it. There is a 3000 RPM limiter set by the PCM when it is in neutral....
