Hello all,
Have a 1997 F250HD With a stock Radio with a RF 12 disc CD Changer.
Installed some fog lamps the other day and that required me to disconnect the Positive Battery connection.
Once everything was hooked back up the Radio Unit had power (Clock was working) but i cannot turn the radio on.
The power button is inop, aslo unable to set the clock.
All face plate buttons inoperative.
Prior to the radio failure the power button was stuck in the on position.
I removed the unit sprayed electric cleaner to all the connections and harness plugs.
Even Sprayed the face plate power button with no luck.
I know it is just the factory unit but it sounds good enough for a 40 year old guy like me.
Anyone have ay suggestions other than the obvious unit replacement?
Thanks!!!!!
I think i had the same problem. My truck shorted out after some idiot pulled out infront of me (dodge 1500 turned into a horseshoe, hehe). My fan blade cut the positive cable in half. Anyways, if the radio was on when the key was in the 'on' position, when i started the truck the radio would cut off and no matter how many times i pushed the power button it wouldnt come back on. I would have to turn the truck back off, make sure the radio was off when the key was in the 'on' postion, then i could start the truck and the radio would come on without any troubles. I was a nuisance at first but after a while i had grown used to it. I ended up replacing the radio after the seek, bass, etc. etc. buttons finally failed. I did not have a 12 disc Cd changer but i had the stock AM/FM tune CD radio.
My wifes car did the same thing, (Chevy Camaro). The battery died so I replaced it. When I was finished I saw the radio wouldn't work, but the radio had power to it. Found out that it had a security device that required a code to be entered into the radio to unlock it. Could this possibly be your problem?

Is this what your expirencing???
I'm Not to sure,
I do think the power button is toast.
Can't get it to do anything except display the time.
Tried a few combanations with the Ignition etc... and no luck.
Unable to set the time or turn the radio on.
The power button was stuck on prior to all this happening so the hunch is a failed power button and face plate.
Guess it's time to purchase a new tuner or another OEM from ebay?
Not sure if it is possiable to enter a code into the tuner as The owners manuals were missing when I bought the Truck.
Have a Good weekend!
If you are going to replace it, you can always do better with aftermarket. Unless you dont care about how the radio sounds, only that it works. besides now you can get an in dash DVD player and monitor with satelite radio and feel up to date.
