Can someone give me the Ford part numbers for the 2 inch high F250 blocks and U bolts so thatI can get the rear down on my new F 350 4x4 short box with 4 inch blocks, Ford Parts can't identify the right one.
One more thing to keep in mind is wheelbase length.
Different wheelbases use either tapered or non-tapered blocks to maintain the proper driveline angles. Some of the longer wheelbase vehicles should also have the carrier bearing shim replaced to maintain proper driveline angles.
This info came from another post:
137" & 142" WB use tapered blocks
156", 158", & 172" WB use non-tapered blocks
I ran into the reverse problem. Dealer parts listings only showed one number for the blocks for both the F250 (OEM 2" block)and F350 (OEM 4" block). Their parts lists have alot to be desired.
4" to 2" conversion on a F350 4x4 Crew Cab Short Box:
(2) 2" block F81Z 5598, around $40 each (for a hunk of iron!)
(4) U-bolt N804420 S436 around $11 each
I was the source of this info, and when I did the install, I found out the UBOLTS were NOT correct. They were TOO SHORT. They would have worked without the overload springs in the stack. I ended up using the old UBOLTS from the 4" blocks, and just screwed down the nuts further down the threads. Oh, and the reduction is height after installation was not 2", more like 1 1/2. If you measure out the blocks. the 2" is more like 2 1/2.

I don' think the trade would work as we would both have to stop driving for a week I live in Canada.Second problem would be that I forgot to state in my orginal post that my truck is a short box supercab it would apear that yours is a crew they don't have the taper on them that I need. Thanks for the offer.

I happen to be on the phone with Ford parts this morning when I got your replies to my query had them check both of your numbers and they said they where not good numbers. The numbers on the blocks are probley engineering or casting numbers.
My 2" blocks are removed , as stated in my post. I have already installed lift, just looking for some Ford 4" blocks to replace the skyjackers.I want the ford blocks because they have the bump stop perch cast into the block. I wanted to find a trade because I cant see spending $47 a peice for something I really don't need, just want.
As for taper, in all of my research before my project, I dont think Ford makes a 2" tapered block. Mine are straight and the actual height is 1 3/4", not
1 1/2, as stated in a post by n6nfg. The " 4" " block actually measures
3 1/2".
But if you can find a 2" tapered Ford blocks, good luck.
The blocks that I removed from my F250 extended cab short bed definately are tapered.
I had one heck of a time when going from 2" to 4". The parts dept. parts listings showed the same part number for the F250 and F350. Parts guy didn't believe there were two different blocks for the two models until I drug him out onto the lot and crawled under both trucks. Then he said that the discrepancy in parts lists didn't really surprise him one bit. They all show as a "5598" part on the drawings. When you look up this part in the lists it shows the same complete p/n for the F250 & F350. We ended up ordering the p/n that is listed and it turned out to be the 4" tapered block.
There was also a TSB issued (TSB 99-14-5) regarding the 1999 model F350 and ride height being too high for some gooseneck trailers. I had found a complete copy of this TSB at one point (can't find it now)and it had all the part numbers required to switch from 4" to 2" including the blocks, u-bolts and nuts.
hdway,
I don't believe there have been any differences in the rear suspension in years. You might be able to have them check for this TSB and go from there. You might also be able to check the "For Sale" listings at ford-trucks.com. Now and then they are posted. Someone close to you might be selling.
HDWAY;
If you still have the factory 4" (3.5") blocks, i would be interested in buying them. Let me know, thanks. We can do PayPal, money order, check, I'll work with you...
well, when you get a competant ford parts dude, just get the 2" blocks, dont waste the fitty bux on the bolts, you dont need em when you go down, only when you go up.
i have 2" tapered blocks from my truck, however with shipping (quite heavy) and canukian import duty taxes and crap, prolly not worth it.
you should be able to get them for ~20% off list, ask for it!

Thanks but I will keep them just in case I want to lift it back up again.
