Automatic Headlamps

A couple of questions concerning the automatic headlamps on the '04 Expy.

First, does anyone use this feature? I've been told most people don't.

Second, the automatic headlamps come on as soon as you turn the key (when it's dark enough). Will this shorten the battery or starter life? I've always been told to make sure everything is off before cranking the engine.

Any feedback is appreciated...

I use this feature and love it. I don't have a garage, so the auto headlamps light the way into the house after dark.

I leave my lights on AUTO all the time, with the **** pulled out so that my fog lights come on automatically too. The fogs add a lot of light to illuminate the road, plus it looks good too. All my friends who have Expeditions leave theirs on AUTO too. LOVE MY '03 Eddie Bauer Expedition 5.4. I don't think Ford would put an AUTOMATIC option for the headlights if it were harmful to any part of the truck.

I also use the AUTO feature w/ the fog lamps. Best way to go as far as I'm concerned.

I also use my automatic head lamp feature and never worry about my lights being on/off. I swear by it, would never buy another vehicle without it. I have a '00 Expy and have never had a battery or starter issue yet.

I use the auto headlights on our 98 and 03 Expedition, as well as our 03 Explorer and 95 Thunderbird, none have had any problems.

I traded in my 03 EB for an 04 Mustang. I miss the auto headlamp feature. But the only thing I didn't like about it is that it seemed to switch off and on a lot during dusk and dawn.

I didn't at first, I thought they were daytime running lights at first. Maybe the reason most people don't. (never read the manual on the lights) But then discovered they're automatic!! Just one more thing not to think about while driving. Heck use the features you've paid for.

Question fog lights with auto headlights

How do you leave your fog lights on so that they activate with the auto headlights. I have a 98 Expedition and in order to turn on the fog lights, you need to physically turn on the headlights, then pull the **** out. It only pulls out when the headlights are on. Thanks

On the '03 and later models, when you turn the switch counterclockwise to the auto position you also have the option of pulling the switch out for fog lamps. They really light up the road directly in front of the vehicle as well as the ditches. Super feature, I wouldn't be without it.
