HI,I JUST RECENTLY GOT MY FIRST FORD SUPER DUTY. I JUST PURCHASED A SET OF RANCHO SHOCKS TAKEN OFF OF AN FX4 WITH 9000 MILES ON IT. I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS WORTH THE 70$ I PAID FOR THE SET.
The Ford factory "Rancho's" are made by Rancho under Ford spec's and are not much better then stock (note: better then stock). Ford "Rancho's" have a Ford # on them. Trust me I got a 03 Screw FX4 with the "Rancho" upgrade and I swapped them out to genuine Rancho 5000's. The difference in handling is a lot better.
I've also heard that the Chilton manual says that the life of the Ford "Rancho's" is 15-20 K (I've yet to confirm this).
Just keep your stock (if there still good), and if the new Rancho's are not worth poop, your only out $70 and you still got your old ones to put back.
Do it yourself. I just did all 4 for the first time in less than 1 hour. I didnt have to jack it up, remove wheels or anything, just chock it and slide underneath with a good socket set and some WD40.
Easy
Rancho & Monroes are guanteed for life. I not sure what that means exactly, but my local Rancho dealer told me he had just done a free swap out on a leaking rancho shock that was 16 years old.
I have just changed my FORD shocks with 130K miles on the clock (second hand truck so I dont know if they were the showroom originals). Anyway, they were really sloppy and soft. Now there is a massive improvment in braking, traction & acceleration, reduced body roll, sway, sea-sickness , everything. I can belive what a differance it made.
Used 4*Monroe Relex which i'm told are indentical to Rancho RS (but cheaper) .

It still feels like a 4X4 but there is less "sway" in the rear end, while driving down the highway. This felt like the rear end was being blown sideways and the truck was driving like a dog's hind leg (wife was following me and said the truck was tracking straight down the road).
As to the warranty, I know the After market Rancho's (Genuine Rancho's) are guarenteed for life, but unsure of the Ford's FX4 "Rancho's". I climbed under my truck this past week-end and looked at the shocks, there is a Ford part # but no Rancho # (except the big Rancho sticker). I got the truck brand new, so I don't think they we swaped out or changed on me.
