I need help, my 79 f250 351m quit chargin the other night, i put an alternator on it, wasnt the problem, voltage regulator wasnt the problem, a differnt alternator and new battery, still not chargin, what is my problem, please help me i need the truck.
Is the ignition/gauge wire on the voltage regulator (center wire I think) showing any power when the truck is running?
I had this same problem in my old Ranchero, and it turned out that the dash light had burned out, interrupting the circuit that tells the regulator to charge.
Yes, we tried runnin a whole differnt new wire in the place of that wire, still no luck, what is my deal??i duno what else there is that i could mess with.
I would try that but ill tell ya the deal, the alternator had a bearin going out of it but charged fine, i took it off and put a new one on and it wouldnt charge, so i put the old one back on till i could get another one, still didnt charge again, then we went from there and done everything else
Are you getting power into the alternater from the ignition ? If so I'd hook a amp gage on the big post on the alt. and see if it's putting anything out when it's running.

You remove a working part, replace it with a new part, and it doesn't work. Put the original working part back in, and now it doesn't work either?
My first thought would be "What did I change/damage in the process of removing/installing the parts?" Has a wire been broken internally? Something blown? A post severed from its internal connection? A ground lost? I'd be checking wire integrity with an ohmmeter.
I think there is a fusable link in the alternator circuit. Kind of a fat black plastic thing on one of the wires going to the alternator. It's like a fuse and must be replaced.
