Even new parts can be faulty.
Were these parts tested at the store where they were bought?

The problem could even be a wire.

So how do you know it isn't charging?
Do you have a multi-meter connected to it ?

Is the ignition/gauge wire on the voltage regulator (center wire I think) showing any power when the truck is running?
I had this same problem in my old Ranchero, and it turned out that the dash light had burned out, interrupting the circuit that tells the regulator to charge.

Are you getting power into the alternater from the ignition ? If so I'd hook a amp gage on the big post on the alt. and see if it's putting anything out when it's running.

This was done on generators, not alternators or should I say DC generators and not AC generators.

You remove a working part, replace it with a new part, and it doesn't work. Put the original working part back in, and now it doesn't work either?

My first thought would be "What did I change/damage in the process of removing/installing the parts?" Has a wire been broken internally? Something blown? A post severed from its internal connection? A ground lost? I'd be checking wire integrity with an ohmmeter.

I think there is a fusable link in the alternator circuit. Kind of a fat black plastic thing on one of the wires going to the alternator. It's like a fuse and must be replaced.
