I'm looking at a 2000 ranger xlt v6. It was totaled probably 4-5 years ago...some guy got ahold of it and fixed it up and the darn thing looks brand new...94000 miles on it...loaded, automatic 2 wheel drive...great looking truck...he's drove it for 3 years...he said the rear end "blew up" on him and he had it fixed. I took it for a spin and it seems to be a great buy...he wants 5000 for it....He's the problem....kinda worried about the salvaged title and it was kinda gutless....not much pep...is this normal for a v6 flex fuel? I was driving a 92 ranger w/ 211,000 miles, which seemed to have more pep! is this because the 2000 is just a heavier truck? whatcha think? thanks, shawn
One more thing about it....when idling it runs great...but when you press on the gas hard, it revs up and sputters like there's some kind of govener or something?? is this normal? thanks again

It depends. 3.0's are "O.K." by most people's standards, but that depends. What's the gear ratio? Was the engine new or original? The biggest concern to watch out for in vehicles that have been in an accident of any kind is how much was the frame damaged? Even a slight warp or mis-alignment in the frame will cause you many long-term probelms. It's just something that's unavoidable unless you replace the frame completely. Ask the guy if you can get it checked-out by a mechanic before you buy...that would be your best bet. Good luck.
Going to drive it again friday. I talked to my brother(he knows all) about the sputter when i stomp on the gas when idleing...he said it was the "rev control thingy" all new cars have them? so...not worried about that....If i can get the bank to finance for a salvaged vehicle..this is would be a GREAT buy....2000 loaded ranger v6 flex auto 2 wheel loaded to the gills...94000 miles....i'm itchin to get my hands on it....i'll keep ya posted...
