Hello,
I am new to the Ford Enthusiast board and have been reading old posts about the CPS, but have been unable to find what I think I am looking for.
I have the 4.0L pushrod motor and it is currently in the shop being rebuilt. Before I took it out for the rebuild I had taken it to a Ford dealer and they indicated that my CPS needed replacing. Well I have since taken it out, and of course am searching for the seemingly ever elusive inexpensive CPS (normally $400 or so). Though it struck me that I will need to realign it when I get the new or good used one. Has anyone ever had any experience with this or is there allready a post on this?
I had to have my camshaft position sensor replaced on a 96. Part was fairly cheap, around 30-40, however the labor was expensive. The sensor sits on top of your oil pump, which is in the back of your engine close to the firewall, almost impossible to reach. It also involves setting your #1 piston at 10 deg. past top dead center. I paid the money and had someone do it for me. I think all together it was around 400 w/labor. Good Luck.
