I have a 53 f-100 & just had the flat head v-8 rebuilt. I would like to paint the engine original color. Could someone please give me info on colors & where to get paint ?
That's a very good question. I haven't found an answer. You can check out my research page for what I've found so far. I talked to a couple people at the Supernationals about engine paint. One of them was the owner of the '53 on page two of my pictures. He claimed the flatheads were painted a different shade of green in '53. First time I ever heard that. I suspect he used the Krylon Ford Green though I forgot to ask. It was definitely a darker shade of green than what is on my 215. The problem with internet pictures is they look different from one monitor to the next and that's even when the color has been corrected which mine hasn't. The flash went off on the engine picture I mentioned above so it's brighter than it really was.
I also ran into a guy that has a '53 with a 215 and he said Little Dearborn had the correct paint four years ago. I followed up with them when I got home but all they have is the older engine paint. So my search continues. I even bought some Mercury Green from Bill Hirsch but it wasn't right. I can't mail it back since it's considered hazardous material. I may have the local paint shop try to tint it to match my engine. That's really my only alternative at this point.
