Keep a High Milage Expedition?

Crazy?

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I have a ’98 EB with 123,000 miles and besides a blown sub woofer and the shifter indicator for the transmission being one setting off, the thing runs great (knocking on wood right now). I also have a Volvo that has much less mileage and is leaking oil, needs new suspension and other little stuff that needs attention but adds up to big $$$.

<o></o>

I’m actually considering dumping the Volvo and keeping the high mileage Expedition. Is this crazy? Most of the miles are highway miles .

Why not?, I have almost 118k on mine and nothing leaks on mine either (knocking on wood too!). The only thing done was having the tranny rebuilt (under warranty)! So keep it, 'cause you can roll over the Volvo

98 Expedition

Wow, that is great news. I just got my 98 EB Expedition one month ago with 68K miles, and frankly, most of the posts on this board scare the crap out of me. Its nice to hear a good story for a change. Ill keep up with my 3000 mile oil changes and regular maintainence. I also just picked up a 3 year, bumper to bumper, after market warentee from Continental, so im set. Good luck to you all.

I just bought a 98 expedition three weeks back with 158,000miles on it. Have already put over three thousand miles on it. It runs and drives great. No oil burning or leaks. I hope to put at least another 100,000 on it myself.

Mpg

Does any one know if the aftermarket air intake systems work at all to increase MPG. I really dont care too much about HP, but I have a K&N air filter due in to me any day and I was wondering if the intake upgrade is worth it. Also if the $50-60.00 versions are as good as the $150.00 versions? Thanks

Most likely not, there really isn't too much you can do to increase mpg that much to offset the cost of the new intake system. I would get a good set of tires and shocks (if they are still original) to make the ride even better if I was going to spend money on making the car drive better. But it's up to you, if you do a search on the subject you will find that this subject has been brought up numerous times, and you can find out results from the people that have done it.

I have a 2000 and it has a little wheel under the dash to adjust the shift indicator. Yours may as well.

If you look at the top of each page of the forum there is a toolbar that has a search function on it with a down arrow. Click on it, go to advanced search and find this forum in the search criteria and type something like k&n or air intake and it will bring up posts by various members.

I am there too. Mine has 127,000 and I am thinking of putting some big money in it. I think I will lower it and do wheels and stereo,,well you know. But I also am worried about the miles. It will only use about a quart of oil between changes and I think that is good. Everything except the trans is dry and it is only wet around the pan gasket.
KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!

Keep the Expy. It's just getting broken in well. You can easily double the present mileage with ordinary routine care. Mine's at 127K and I'm looking at trading it in only in 2007 or 250K miles, which ever comes first.
