When talking about propylene glycol coolants be sure and differentiate between those mixed with water and those with 100% propylene glycol. The Evans might be perfectly all right for the reasons stated while the Mixtures might not. Also note that the Ford TSB ends with the 2002 F series. Maybe thats' because Ford then came out with the Gold coolant, which is propylene Glycol - based!!
Well here I am at 90,000 miles and almost 4 years from my post on page 1 of this thread and let me tell you I have never had any problems with my NPG+ system and it is absolutely awesome. I towed my 30ft Keystone Raptor last year to Lake Havasu up the hills doing 70MPH and it was 120 deg F outside and it didnt get hot. The needle went up a little but never got hot. I even put it into my dirt bike for boilover protection. I have never had to add sca`s either and my resevior looks as clean as the day I bought my truck. I dont work or have any associations with Evans coolant but I believe in there product and would use it again if I ever get another diesel.
The only thing i had to do was drill a tiny, tiny hole into the plastic cap that is on the reservior. I have never lost any fluid from the reservior either, even after off-roading up several hill climbs. this stuff is one of the greatest upgrades I think you can do. I carry 1 extra gallon with me on long trips when I tow just for pieve of mind. The biggest thing to remember when switching over is to remove the block drain from the block and to get all the old anti-freez out. I think Dieselsite dot com had the directions for our motors, as that is where I purchased the NPG+. It has givin me total piece of mind in knowing I do not ever have to check my SCA`s or worry about boilover and blown hoses. i still look over all my hoses before I take trips but thats what anyone should do due to heat damaging stuff. I know that if I did blow a hose it wouldnt be from pressure and that I could probably duct tape it to autozone or wherever to fix it, i wouldnt be stranded. Hope this helps.
Lee, I second what you said. I've got over 7 years with Evans coolant( 2 different rigs) and never ever had a problem. I tow hard and heavy and the guage barely moves. never worry about a burst hose or a blown seal. With Bob's coolant fiiter installed, cooling system maintaince becomes a matter of just looking at the level in the bottle when I check the oil in the morning. For me the benifits outway the costs. Barney
I just bought a new skid steer and will be putting this stuff in it also. I honestly would have to say that the cost is not an issue for this stuff considering I do not have to worry about the SCA`s, Ever! Barney, where did you get the coolant filter? I havent installed one into mine but I wouldnt mind doing it even though it doesnt look dirty.
I second, third, fourth, this stuff, it's the best. I run it with the 203 stat and billet housing. It's like putting a warm blanket around this engine. All you have to do is keep two gallons around for repairs and what not.
