If the truck seems to shift fine and goes into reverse, neutral etc., but when I put it in park on any incline it doesn't hold, does the jerky roll stop, roll stop. Is this probably just adjusting the bands. If so which and if not does it signal more serious problems?

It' not the bands- theres a mechanism in the tailshaft housing -when you put it in park, a steel rod is pushed through a "wheel" with notches in it-the rod is spring loaded and pushes through when it aligns with one of the notches, locking the output shaft. you can see some of the rod from inside the case if you remove the pan. I'd guess the spring is damaged or someone put it together wrong-if it's been recently rebuilt.

Dude- I totally screwed up that description of park function-maybe I should get some sleep before I try to help!!! theres actually kind of a "ball" towards the end of rod, when the linkake is put in park the ball gets pushed into an arm that grabs the wheel with the notches in it. Unfortunately it takes some teardown to inspect-youll have to remove the tailshaft housing and the govenor and govenor housing to acess the park mechanism

removing the extension housing will allow an inspection of the park pawl and gear but if the parts are damaged you will have to pull the transmission and tear it down. The snap rings to allow removal of the governor housing are the last thing in the transmission to come out.
