My grandpa was the original owner of this beast...Its a pretty nice truck...1978 Ford F-250 Supercab, with posi rear end, and a 460 engine, Auto. only 70,000 original miles on it, needs paint but interior is nice... Only bad thing is its not 4x4, ive heard a conversion is difficult to do and maybe not worth it? My dad had a 77 with a 460 4x4 and thing went anywhere you took it.... I am basiclly lookin for some ideas here on where I should go with this thing? Im think a nice lift and rims and tires nothing too fancy, but I could really use the 4 wheel drive... Well, any input could help...Thanks guys
I hear it is difficult and most people end up swapping the body onto a 4wd frame. However, you have a supercab so it would be hard for you to find a 4wd frame. Mabye someone else will come along and give some advice. Welcome to FTE.
Ooooo, big project! Do you have a shop, lots of tools, and some fabrication experience? If you do and feel like a fun project then go for it. If not it won't be worth your time or money to convert it, this coming from a guy who loves 4x4 Supercabs. If you want to do some research on what all is involved just search for "2wd" in the offroad forum. About half of the threads that pop up will be about this very subject and many of them will provide answers on what all needs to be done.
Will require:
Transfer case (and adapter for tranny unless you go divorced)
Front axle
New front driveshaft and modified rear
Springs and spring mounts (leaf springs would be easiest)
Steering modifications
Time
Patience!
Thanks man, like I said my dad had a Supercab 4x4 with a 460 he built and put in. I loved that thing so much and he got rid of it a while ago and I wish I would of got it from him.....Now my gramps is giving me his and like I said it in pretty damn good condtion so i wanna do something with it. It was free to me......
Bad,
Please enjoy this truck, as is.
It's still a pretty rare truck, as is.
If it's not rusty and the cab mounts are in good shape, your quite fortunate.
You said you had a posi. I slight lift and you should be set. Buy a wench and call it a day.
If you want to sell it, let me know.

Bad,
I need to see some pics.
I'd estimate its worth about $2500, at least if it runs and has little to no rust. I'd have to see the rest.

PS I've seen them go much higher than $2500.
I believe i saw a thread around a month ago, some guy wanted $10,000 for his. It was cutsom. I don't know if he got it or not?
koo, the body is straight though there is some rust spots and paint is faded...interior is pretty bitching though.... I will try and get some pics if you are really super interested I mean I am not advertising or anything but if someone wants to buy it then ill deal...
what about gettin a 4x4 supercab frame from a newer truck? like an 88 or something, i think modifying body and engine mounts would be the easyest thing. the only thing is you would need a new transmission. or just the adapter that connects the tranny to the t-case. but honestly this is the direction i would take if i was you. and btw if you do this, get rid of the sissy ttb and go monobeam! i dont care what anyone says, ttb S**KS!!!!
