sorry for mis-labeling the grill Fordboy. I am still interested in finding a correct "brite alluminum" grill for my 66 Ford. Thanks for the response though.
Have seen the grill on ebay on occasion. The 65 grill is the one that is hard to come by. Was not able to locate in Autokrafter's online catalog. According to John's F100 catalog the grill is "coming" www.f100.com. Checked the Obsolete Ford Parts catalog and it shows they have them, item #C6TZ-8200-B for about $400, wwwobsoletefordparts.com. On occasion, come across them in fair to good condition at salvage yard. Priced the cost of anodizing 65 grill and estimate of between $200 and $300, depending upon condition of grill. If requires straightening, could cost more. Reliable plating shop discourages chroming.
i used poor man's method of reconditioning the grill and not sure would try it again. Extremely time and labor intensive. Took anodize stripper, then medium sandpaper to remove any pits, then used fine, to extra fine to finish. Need to finish w/ clear coat or the alum will turn black. Again, labor intensive and then may not be satisfied w/ results. I am satisfied, although must admit with the time spent reconditioning not sure how close i want to look. Have 2 65's and can't notice any significant difference. Also depends on what you are looking for.
Anyhow, had the urge to chime in. Good luck

I dunno, the 66 grilles are the popular one, or so it seems, I just got a 66 with the steel grille....staight as an arrow too. A stablemate for my 65 C/S,C/C....looks happy sitting next to a "relative"
Does the desert Sw wipe out the anodizing or ??? Im looking for a pr of NOS alum. headlight doors if anyone knows where they can be had....
I recently downloaded a copy of National Parts Depot's catalog and they list 66 bright finish grille. The part # is F-8200-3, There is ,however, no price listed .
They list two depot locations:
North Carolina local 704-331-0900
tollfree 1-800-368-6451
Florida, local 352-861-8700
tollfree 1-800-874-7595
Hey Guys,
More shiny stuff. Somthing I discovered during my resto. My truck had a painted dash bezel and when I stripped it under the paint was bright metal! A little elbow grease and a buffing wheel and it shined like chrome! Apparently they all started bright and some were painted.
